Join in as self Published author Brian Bold leads a discussion on LULU.com – an internet approach to self publishing and Jackie Green – short story writer, follows the discussion looking into other methods of self publishing.

Read out and judging for the annual ‘HATCH IT’ - 500 word fiction competition using the scenario & character/s decided by the group (see hand-outs and website link for character details) Submit 2 copies of your anonymous entry – bring it along on the night. £1 entry fee DEADLINE

Bring along a tipple, a snack-ette and some humorous poetry . A night for laughs reading your fun and light-hearted poetry whilst enjoying a summer social occasion. Draw theme for the 500 word ‘Pass it around’ group competition – deadline for entries 8th September.

Workshop – What makes O.Henry great?

Participate in this workshop led by excellent short story writer Trevor Spinage. Discover the brilliance of the short story writing of William Sydney Porter (O. Henry) 1862-1910 Read some of his acclaimed stories such as: ‘The Gift of the Magi’, ‘ Man about Town’ & ‘Mammon and the Archer’ and participate in the discussion of his writing – What makes it great? The wit, humour, characterisation and plot twists of O. Henry were adored by his readers, but often panned by the critics, yet, he went on to gain international recognition and is credited with defining the short story as a literary art form.
